I always lower the pitch by a % ratio, eg 25% or 50% because then the notes are the same, just an octave or two lower, meaning you can add your own melodies etc. Also, it makes it easier to find the tempo from the original. Aaaaand if you wanna go dancey, learn how to use "sidechain compression...
