Re: Making witch house

^ Cool! Scytthe, would you mind posting that in the Resource Links thread too? On the subject of mastering: there are a few different schools of thought, but I've come to the conclusion that it's usually best to let someone who knows wtf they're doing and has proper gear handle it. However most of u...

Nadja

If Justin Broadrick had continued down the path of the late Godflesh albums and veered a little left of his current Jesu stuff (which I also love) it might sound like Nadja, a Canadian band with a zillion releases that I only recently got hipped to:

Re: Group Project

 The fixed BPM thing is totally a DJ-ism: I'm always railing about the tyranny of 140 in dubstep and how I like it heavier, slower... (there's a time & place for all BPMs... speaking of juke. 8-) ) But honestly - most genres are defined by their limitations. Take away palm-muted guitar and ...

Re: Dubstep/UK Garage/Etc.

Maybe/maybe not of interest...

the emerging sound in dubstep people are calling "Dungeon." It's actually something of a throwback to the roots of the sound, but it's sparse, moody, cavernous - all things folks here might dig.

Re: Resource Links

Now we're cookin'!

This guy has a bunch of freeware VST's that are decent - particularly of interest are his 606 and 808 emulators (Tromine GT and Tromine Z, respectively.)

Re: Making witch house

Audacity is a wonderful (and free) complement to Reaper; Audacity for wave editing and Reaper for sequencing/arranging. They're both good for live recording too if you've got a decent soundcard. If this subject's been broached before then pls. ignore, but... any thoughts about a Production forum here?

Re: Making witch house

noob/lurker here...

1) Big +1 on Reaper.
2) This sound is still wonderfully vague, so - try and avoid bringing any formulas to the table so we can keep it that way.
3) Keep it simple. Restraint speaks volumes.

PS: Killsaly, just listened to a mix of yours on Mixcloud.... liked it a lot.
